Every year brings a new wave of design trends. Some are worth considering. Many are not — especially if you’re doing a full renovation that you’ll live with for 10+ years. Here’s our honest take on what’s worth doing in 2024–2025.
Fluted Panels — Worth It
Fluted panels on TV walls, wardrobe fronts, and even bathroom walls add texture and depth without being loud. They photograph well, age gracefully, and work across Scandinavian, japandi, and modern minimalist styles. One of the few trends we’d confidently spec into a renovation today.
Japandi Style — Worth It
The blend of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth. Light woods, clean lines, natural materials. This isn’t going anywhere — it’s essentially become a modern classic in Singapore homes.
Curved Furniture — Proceed With Caution
Curves are having a moment in sofas and coffee tables. In small HDB spaces, curved furniture can actually make rooms feel more spacious. But in a few years, very rounded, bubbly pieces may feel dated. If you like it, go for it in movable pieces — not built-ins.
Bold Accent Walls — Skip It
The single bold-coloured feature wall had its peak around 2018–2020. Textured walls (lime wash, venetian plaster) are more interesting and timeless. If you want colour, use it on movable items.
